Is roof moss a problem?
Here in the UK, It is a familiar sight to see a blanket of moss and lichen growing on roof tiles, and it looks appalling, what’s more, if left for too long it is possible that the moss and lichen will cause lasting damage. As the moss and lichen spread, the roots can grip the surface, working its way into the porous layer causing the roof tiles to decay. The problem won’t go away without intervention it only gets worse as the moss sucks up moisture, feeding its growth and enhancing its ability to cause damage. Put simply, the longer you leave it, the worse it will get.
How to remove roof moss
Roof moss removal can be a straightforward and painless procedure to remove the moss and bring your roof back to its former glory. The results after a roof renovation can be remarkable. The appearance alone will impress you and others.

Pointing
Ridge, gully, and gable pointing may be loose or damaged in areas, so care will need to be taken when pressure washing around these areas. Be sure to remove any loose Mortar and repoint after the roof has been cleaned.
Mortar is used on roofs to fill gaps (point/pointing) normally in valley gutters, gable ends and to seat/hold ridge tiles in place (Ridge tiles bridge areas such as the roof apex down roof hips)
Gutter cleaning
Loose pointing, silt, and moss will ultimately end up in the gutter causing blockages in the gutter, downpipes and even the drains if not cleaned out. Tip: To protect the dos pipes and drains from blockages, install a filter in the top of the downpipe to prevent large debris from entering the downpipe. Trust us, this will save you a big headache in the future.
Cars and conservatories.
Don’t forget that you are jetting debris that may occasionally fly off the roof and hit anything below such as cars and conservatories. It is wise to move cars off the driveway and cover conservatory roofs.
